MIPIM 2010 : First impressions

I arrived late last night on the EasyJet flight into Nice. A quick transfer by the trusty Limo company delivered me to our latest apartment – which is much better than last years effort! It is around 10 minutes walk to town, downhill. This means uphill at the end of the day!

Geoff Hibbert & me outside the main hall in Cannes

I awoke this morning to the sunshine of Cannes and a great view. There was a blue sky – but a slight breeze.

Breakfast in the Cafe Marina was cheaper than last year at 6€ – the essential caffeine boost. It’s not my favoured Starbucks Cappucino, but it was much needed! Caffe Roma has been updated – I wonder if the toilets have… I expect to find out later.

A wander to the Harbour to meet up with the Invest in Nottingham guys. They were decking out PowderMonkey in Nottingham pink! I was soon roped into stuffing the brochures – but rewarded with an excellent lunch on the yacht. The crew have mostly changed since last year – but the same high standards remain.

And then to work. My first job of the day was a photo-shoot for the Nottingham Evening Post – with Geoff Hibbert – Director of Workspace. Public sector meets private sector. Suit meets jeans (my suit was a 15 minute walk up the hill!).

It’s fairly quiet so far but the show doesn’t start proper until tonight – the Estates gazette were expecting it to be a more sober affair – but it seems fairly brisk so far. I grab 10 minutes on the yacht to write this blog – and I can’t think of a better location I have blogged from! The back of a yacht!

But I can’t believe I got talked into that pink t-shirt! I expect a fair amount of grief from back home…..

Just knew you’d be wearing that pink t-shirt at the first opportunity!

You’re worrying about pink in a town like Cannes? Just wait until some people have spent a day on the Riviera level terraces. You won’t be alone, but you can take your pink off at night rather than trying to remove it with moisturising cream.
