Buyer beware and the (im)perfect market

Much was made when I studies economics as part of my degree (a very long time ago since you ask!) about the fact that the market is not perfect. The buyers and sellers do not always have ‘perfect’ knowledge and this gives rise to imperfections in the true market place.

Of course the internet has changed that situation somewhat. It is now possible to search for information in milliseconds – and aggregation sites have grown up (moneysupermarket.com and the like).

Regular blog followers will know that my car is up for renewal and I have another decision to make – I have a personalised plate on my current car. I need to decide whether to put it on the new car or hold it on retention…

I was just browsing for other plates (sadly I can’t buy TG1 – and even TG62, they year of my birth, is a bit steep at £7,099). I went to Regtransfers and to DVLA respectively and got a price for TG60TMG…. the prices are below. Same plate – £899 at Regtransfers and £399 at DVLA… just £500 difference. As I said – buyer beware!
