I had a place in the summer of 2009 to be part of the art piece in Trafalgar Square – on Anthony Gormley’s fourth plinth. I couldn’t actually go – so had to throw my lottery ticket back in. I didn’t get another chance! I hadn’t quite decided what I would have done, but I think my plan was to photograph everyone photographing me… art impersonating art?
In Liverpool in the week I noticed a number of signs pointing to Anthony Gormley‘s ‘another place’ and was intrigued – so I weaved off my path slightly in search.
It is amazing.
There are 100 cast iron life size figures stretched across the beach just north of Liverpool on Crosby beach. They all look out to sea and are evidently modelled on Gormley himself. The figures stretch out over 2 miles. As the tide ebbs and flows they disappear and re-emerge.
I think the idea is brilliant and they look amazing. It is well worth heading off the beaten track if you are in the area….

Cracking photo!
It’s the way forward – 6×6 and B&W!! thanks…
Must visit sometime – fascinating!
