Apparently Homeland was one the shows of 2012. It is unlike me to to be at the forefront of such things, but I have just finished the first series on Blue-Ray.
It was brilliant – 11 hours of really well-written drama. Sure it’s American, but you can over-look this. It has won the 2012 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama, and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Damian Lewis and Claire Danes respectively.
Danes is superb – as is Lewis. There are no weak characters here – the war weary colleagues in the CIA are portrayed with uncanny realism. The story weaves in and out – leaving you wanting more. Like all brilliant drama you never quite get to where you thought you were headed! Danes is portrayed as slightly unhinged – but a genius. Lewis is sly and scheming. It has fast cars, naughty bits and lots of huffing and puffing! The CIA / FBI relationship is tested – as is obligatory!
Season 2 is a must – but I have to wait until September to get it on Blue-Ray? No one told me this! Nine months to get to the next stage of the puzzle! It wasn’t lost on me that it’s going to cost me £30 – unless HMV do one of their ‘closing down’ offers?
Or, there is iTunes – £25 for the download… TGF Itunes!
